NAGPUR: “Apart from all the good things Babasaheb Ambedkar gave to the country, he also gave us courage to fight for our rights. He has given us the confidence to display our hidden talents,”, said Sulbhashri Sirsath, a well-known Amedkarite thinker.
She was speaking at a one-day literary meet organized by Ramai Foundation on Saturday at Karuna Bhavan, Bajaj Nagar.
The event was held to mark the death anniversary of Ramabai Bhimrao Ambedkar.
Sirsath further said that the name Ramai indicated peace and happiness. “She helped Babasaheb during the ups and downs in life. She encouraged him to pursue higher studies, took care of the household work and sent money to Babasaheb.”
Chief guest Ranjit Meshram inaugurated the event.
Meshram spoke on ‘Lokshahi deshdrohi ani sanskrutik rashtravad’ while Nisha Shende discussed ‘Dhammakranti ani strianchi bhoomika’.
Discussing Babasaheb’s life, Meshram said that he fought against untouchability through out his life. He took the grievances of the untouchables to court and sough justice and equality for them.
“Bhimrao Ambedkar protested social injustice faced by people from backward castes. He was one of the first leaders to condemn the persecution faced by them.” he added.
Sangeeta Mahajan, Kunda Sonule, Sunanda Nagdev Rashika Borkar, Prabha Sirsat and others were awarded the Ramai Gaurav Puraskar at the event.
Eminent speakers including Pradip Aglawe, Dhanraj Dahat, Nagesh Choudhary also shared their views on the occasion.
President of the foundation Sushila Muljadhav, Rekha Meshram and others were present.
